Where do we meet?
Generally, at the Glascoed Pub off the A472 near Usk. NP15 1QE.
We park at the end of the car park away from the pub building so as not to interfere with the pub’s business.
When do we meet?
We are now meeting as a group in line with UKA advice.
Tuesday and Thursday. 6:30pm - location on the FB Page.
Weekend runs are planned ad hoc by various group members depending on what we’re busy training for.
Is there a cost?
There is no cost to run with the group.
However, if you do join us at the Glascoed Pub, there is an expectation that after a run you’ll have a drink at the pub in recognition of the generosity of the club’s proprietor for letting us use the facilities.
What should I wear?
Anything that is comfortable to run in and representative of the season and prevailing conditions.
For runs in winter and any run possibly ending in the dark we insist on the following:
NO HEADPHONES ARE ALLOWED ON ANY OF OUR GROUP RUNS.
How do I join the group?
Drop us a line via email, or via Facebook if you have any further queries, otherwise come through on a training night and meet us at the bottom of the car park … we’ll be the ones in brightly coloured technical gear.
I’m only Visiting – can I join you?
Absolutely – everyone is welcome to run with us – you might just want to check with us via the Contact page or Facebook what we’ve got on for training whilst you’re in the area.
Are we a club?
We are not a formal club! We’re a group of runners creating a community for runners to enjoy the sport in a structured environment. Our focus is on community and enjoyment of running and hence you can run with us and still be a member of any registered club that you would like.
Are we affiliated to anyone?
We are not affiliated to any athletics association or club. Anyone running with us does not qualify for “attached” status for race entries (unless of course they are First Claim members of a registered club).
We do however endeavour to abide by the UKA Rules for Competition Effective from 1 April 2018 available from: http://www.uka.org.uk/competitions/rules/
What do you mean by “structured environment”?
We have a DBS-cleared coach who qualified outside of the UK over 30 years ago and holds a Level 2, Distance Races qualification. He has coached runners at local, national and international levels.
Can you help me train for a specific event?
We constantly have runners wanting to challenge themselves over new distances, achieve faster times or just try something completely different. We do our best as a collective to help everyone achieve their goals. Within reason, we will aim to provide the structure you need to achieve your goals and within the group you may find a training partner of similar strength.
Just remember, there is no magic bullet! Your legs still have to do the work to get you there!
What about insurance?
Any structured training in the presence of our coach is covered through our coach’s insurance provided that you’ve signed in for the session. Details can be obtained directly from the coach.
For all other runs you are expected to look after yourself and any insurance cover you would require is your own responsibility. Please note that even as a First Claim member of a Registered Club you are only covered as per the policies listed at http://www.uka.org.uk/governance/insurance/.
What about Risk Assessments?
You can find our generic risk assessment at the bottom of this page!
What about First Aid?
We have a couple of runners that are First Aid trained, specifically for running related issues – ask for them to be pointed out to you.
Who can run with the group?
Anyone can join us. However, children under the age of 16 have to be accompanied by a parent or guardian on every run – we do NOT and will NOT take responsibility for minors.
We apply distance limitations for our training runs as set out in Rule 141 sections 2, 3, 4 and 5 of the UKA Rules (http://www.uka.org.uk/competitions/rules/) which limits the distances that can be run depending on age. The following is extracted from the rules:
